The success of Christian singers in the singing competition ‘Australian Idol’ continues as year after year young Christians reach the final stages of the competition. An article in the ‘Age’ newspaper (Thursday 2nd November) highlighted the success of so many of these singers over the years, including previous winner Guy Sebastian, the Williams sisters, ‘Mutto’, and the most recent Dean Geyer, who is still in the running for this years title. When asked by the “Age”, Dean’s pastor, Russell Evans of the 2600 plus strong Planet-shakers youth church in Melbourne said “We want to empower people to follow their dream. Having a relationship with God helps us to do that”
What a wonderful philosophy, one that we should all consider. Encouragement and empowerment to follow your dream should be something we all offer to those we come into contact with. When you also consider the positive self image that comes from being in a relationship with our Lord and Saviour, its no wonder that so many young Christians are finding success.
Our young people regularly attend the Planet-shakers conferences and events; it’s so good to know that what they are hearing is positive and affirming and we should be encouraging all of them to make the effort to go this year in early January.
